2007 Sacagawea Error dollar

Undiscovered error coin will be the first!

PCGS, “the worlds largest rare coin authentication company”, is offering a $10,000 reward for the first Sacagawea 2007 US golden dollar error coin. (Of course, the coin must a genuine error and not a counterfeit.)

* Note this Reward has now been paid!

The highly sought after error must show all the edge lettering intended for the 2007 George Washington Presidential dollars.

Sacagawea dollars normally have plain edges, while the newly minted Washington US dollars have the year, mint mark, and mottos (In God We Trust and E. Pluribus Unum) struck on the edges.

Plain edge are normal on the 2007 SAC US golden dollar coins

An error coin might be possible during the minting process, if a plain edge Sacagawea dollar were somehow sent through the edge lettering machine intended for the Presidential dollars.

A spokesman at PCGS stated, “Sooner or later,…. a Sacagawea coin will be erroneously made with lettering on the edge….: “We’ll pay $10,000 just to be the first to authenticate them.”

Some presidential dollars with ‘no’ edge lettering have already been authenticated and graded. Therefore, it is conceivable that a rare mixup with a Sacagawea dollar could occur, resulting in a scarce Sacagawea dollar with edge lettering.
